The quarterly bankruptcy section meeting luncheon will be held on Tuesday, February 27th, at noon. As usual, the meeting will be in the jury assembly room on the second floor of the new federal courthouse; go through the front door security and then take the steps up to the left. Lunch will be provided by Taco Mama’s and the cost will be covered by sponsor TFS. All bankruptcy practitioners in the Southern District of Alabama are strongly encouraged to attend; attorneys will receive an hour of free CLE credit. New Alabama exemptions go into effect April 1. Alabama’s exemptions will increase effective April 1 to account for inflation. The personal property exemption will increase from $8225 from $9400 and the homestead exemption will increase from $16,450 to $18,800. The court has a chart of the exemption changes since 2015 on its website here.
