NextGen

Next Generation of CM/ECF (NextGen) is Coming Soon – Prepare Today!

On May 4, 2020, the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Alabama will upgrade its case management/electronic case filing system (CM/ECF) to the Next Generation of CM/ECF (NextGen).

NextGen brings new functionality that will allow users to:

  • maintain one PACER login and password to access any NextGen court (bankruptcy, district, and appellate) and
  • sign in one time to access all courts in which users have permission to e-file.

Beginning May 4, 2020, every user must have an individual PACER account, which will need to be linked to the user’s CM/ECF e-filing account to access NextGen. Shared PACER accounts may no longer be used by CM/ECF users.

In order to prepare for NextGen and be able to electronically file on Monday, May 4, 2020, e-filers must complete a few preliminary steps:

Steps

Action

1.

Upgrade your existing individual PACER account prior to May 3, 2020. If you do not have your own individual PACER account, then proceed to Step 2.

To check if you already have an upgraded account, go to Manage My Account and enter your PACER credentials.

  • If the account type is Upgraded PACER Account, no action is required until after the upgrade to NextGen. Once we upgrade, you will need to link your CM/ECF account with your PACER account.
  • If the account type is Legacy PACER Account (an account created prior to August 1, 2014 and the username has two letters followed by four numbers), you must upgrade your PACER account prior to May 3, 2020.

Once you have upgraded your PACER account, go to step 3.

2.

Obtain your own individual PACER account if you do not have one prior to May 3, 2020.

3.

4.

After the court upgrades to NextGen on Monday, May 4, 2020, you will need to link your PACER account with CM/ECF. You will need both your upgraded PACER login and password and your ECF login and password for this process.

Follow the instructions for Linking your CM/ECF and PACER account.
